Mall del Norte

Laredo, Texas - circa 1970's

Boy, I like mood lighting in a mall but this is ridiculous! Heh. And yes, the original postcard is this dark--in fact, believe it or not, I lightened it up a little so we could at least see something. Good way to stay cool in Texas, I guess.

Is that a Monkey Wards in the far background or are my eyes just out of shape?

I hope they didn't pay the photographer much.

While this particular shot is on the dark side, in a way, it fits this scene.

It's a great example of how storefronts back in the 1970s clashed with the darkness of the mall concourse with their signs and interiors to get the attention of people passing by and (hopefully) get them inside and making purchases.

Not me though. I'd be lounging out on a bench, soaking in all the sights and the sounds of that airy Muzak piped throughout the halls.
