Stouffer's Restaurant At Eastland Center Mall

Harper Woods, Michigan - circa 1960s

Great vintage sixties interior postcard view of Stouffer's Restaurant at Eastland Center Mall (aka Eastland Shopping Center), in Metro Detroit. Eastland Center is still there today, unfortunately this swanky restaurant is not. The mall is currently anchored by Sears, Target, Macy's, Marshall Field's, Steve & Barry's, and Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. More vintage photos of Eastland Center Mall coming soon!

Marshall Fields? I think you need to change that to Macy's.

Love the old vintage restaurant chairs. Those green chairs look exactly like the chairs at this diner that I took my dad to for Father's Day.

This looks more like an ocean liner approx. 1930 than a mall restaurant approx. 1960, but it's still lovely.

Oh, great pic! I used to eat there all the time in the early 60s with my family! What memories.

Cora, the Stouffer's Restaurants dates back to the mid twenties. Also the company owned some hotels and such and maybe that is why the restaurants had elegant sort of ocean liner looks. Or perhaps they just hadn't remodeled or updated since the 1930s thus preserving that look. LOL!

Hey, I'm not complaining. I like vintage styled restaurants, whether it's 1920s or 1960s vintage. It's just not the sort of look I would have expected to find in a mall in the 1960s.

Thanks for this photo Keith. I grew up in HW and that mall used to be something to love. I have fond memories of going to Kresge's and climbing on that concrete lion outside of the store. Never got to eat at Stouffer's though.

Yes, there was a grocery store at Eastland. It was either a Wrigley's or a Chatham's. The message board at has a lot of old timers on there who might know for sure.

Eastland Center had a Kroger store in the back for many of the earlier years with an Alexander & Hornung meats & deli right next door.

We would go to B. Siegal (gorgeous store) and then have lunch at Stouffers. Both were down at the east end of the mall. Does anyone remember the live monkeys in the basement of Hughes and Hatchers? Please confirm because maybe I was hallucinating. LOL. Eastland was such a great mall...I spent so much time there as a kid and then went on to work at Hudsons for many years into my 20-30s. I have a photo of the Easter Parade back in early 1960s when everyone was wearing pillbox hats. If you want it let me know.
