Ballinger Shopping Center

Ballinger Terrace, Washington - circa 1960

I don't see any info or history online (on Google anyway) about this little shopping center/plaza, so I have no idea whether or not it's still around today, and if so, under what current retail moniker. I just dug this pretty retro postcard and wanted to share it. Classic vintage shopping center atmosphere, don't you agree?

Tada! There's teh live local view.

The shopping center is on the corner of Ballinger Way NE and NE 205th St in Seattle. It looks like it is anchored today by a new build Rite Aid, a fitness store, a market. Its called Ballinger Village today...and has a starbucks! It looks like the 24 hour fitness could have been a movie theatre at one point. Also, there was a Payless Drugs in the center before Rite Aid.

Eh, the vintage-mess is yet again replaced by Starcraps. Lovely.

Jeff
It's (24 Hour Fitness) the old Ballinger Bowl in beautiful (ahem) Mountlake Terrace. This little stripper is only about 1 mile due east of the now defunct Aurora Village (see July 05). Thanks for the memory Keith!

Wow, does that picture bring back memories. I spent a lot of time hanging around that strip mall back in the day and no I'm not proud of the fact. There was a bar next door to Ballinger Bowl, and a Goofy's Tavern just out of the frame, next to the IGA. Over the course of the '70s I got drunk, laid, and beat up in that parking lot more than once.
