Alpena Shopping Center

Alpena, Michigan - 1971

The actual shopping center is just visible on the left back there. Hard to make out much, I know, but more to the point, I just thought this shot of the Alpena shopping district in an early '70s evening rain, was too loverly not to share. :)

Yup, a beautiful picture. Almost looks like an outtake from Ghost World.

This, like the rest of your site, is fantastic. Any chance you might have a higher res version of this image you'd be willing to part with?

Very moving for a child of the 70's.

Just so you know, the Kroger later became Glen's and is now Save-A-Lot. Behind it was a Kresge, which was later McCrory's, then Smart Value, and is now empty. The left-hand side had a Cunningham's drugstore, which became Perry, then Rite Aid, and is now Dollar General. The entire plaza is now called Harborside Mall, and most of it looks late 80s-early 90s.
