Santa Monica, California - circa 1960s
Here's another fun retro shot of the Santa Monica Mall (now called the
Third Street Promenade), to go with
the other one I just posted recently. This one includes the JC Penney anchor store on the right, along with a much better view of the whole mall in general. I'd say we've got a keeper here, wouldn't you? :)
Thanks very much to, Charles Freericks, for the great postcard!

Great Picture! I love the scale of the buildings. They are at a human level.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the tall skinny white building at the end?
Thanks
Kev
That is the Bay City Guarantee Building, which later went through being a number of other banks. It's now an office building with some TV production companies inside. It pre-dates turning 3rd Street into a mall by something like 40 years.
ReplyDeleteThe JCPenney building is still there today, but is now a Banana Republic store.
ReplyDeleteOOh, I never seen this 'card before! A better shot of the stores.
ReplyDeleteThe store on the far left (in the front) is still there too. That's the Barnes & Noble building now.
