ReplyDelete(ps - I found one of your older entries where you talk about Raimi's Curtains - Sam Raimi's mom's lingerie shop (whew) is called Lulu's. I used to buy underthings there, and last I looked, it's still there, in Bloomfield/Birmingham)

ReplyDeleteThe car is one of many in the annual Northland Auto Show, which predated the construction of downtown Detroit's massive Cobo Hall and its Detroit Auto Show (later called the Detroit International Auto Show — now in danger of deserting the Motor City). The Northland show was avidly awaited by regional car aficionados to view all the latest models in one venue. Shiny new cars were parked throughout the five major courtyard garden plazas for a week or two, accompanied by special sales in assorted major stores. I recall riding my Schwinn bicycle five miles (in good weather) to see it for several years. Back then one could safely park a bike in a Mall-provided rack, using a simple hasp lock, and rely it it being there when leaving! Some kids didn't even bother with locks. Ahhh, the good old days!
