Mall Sign: Valley Fair Mall
Appleton, Wisconsin
Recent photo (2006) of an old weather-worn entrance sign at the now-defunct Valley Fair Mall (aka Valley Fair Shopping Center). Don't know how far back this relic actually dates (Valley Fair opened in 1954), but I think it's seen better days (like the mall). Image via Wikipedia's Valley Fair Shopping Center entry.

I don't think it's original. '70s, maybe?
70s or even 80s definately. But no way orginal.
That sign is from 1979. The brown / yellow motif is Marcus theatres' old color scheme from the time. That is NOT the main mall sign. The mall really didn't have any main 'sign' to speak of.
There was this one, then Kohl's had their own pylon close to their own store.
I knew it wasn't original. I was thinking 70s or 80s, too. Thanks for the clarification that it's from '79, Matt. Cool to know.
As for the sign itself; eh, "main" or not, it was still the mall's sign at any rate (and their only one), so it works close enough for me. :)
I know that sign is not the original. My DW grew up by that mall and it's claim to fame of being the first enclosed mall in this country.
This is the main mall sign.

The main mall sign is in the corner by the stop n go lights. That’s the beauty of the mall
