Winter Park Mall

Winter Park, Florida - circa 1959

Not too shabby, eh? Winter Park Mall (now Winter Park Village) really had a nice center court. This scene is just an amazing sight to my eyes. The views at the aerial link below are quite spectacular, too!

Seems like you posted Winter Park before... only instead of Walgreen's Pharmacy, it was ycamrahP s'neerglaW (i. e. the photo was flipped).

Heh, you're absolutely right, Anonymous, that one pic is indeed reversed. But guess what? That's how they printed the sucker on the original postcard! They goofed. :D

Like the postcard printer, I simply never looked that closely at it myself to catch it when I posted it, but eagle-eyed readers like you did. I'll reverse it soon and do a corrective repost or something. Thanks for the reminder.

Those people certainly dressed up for the photo. They even picked their red dresses and shirts to match the signage of the ubiquitious Walgreen's.

The fountain is great, though, and those hanging planters are definitely something different.

Is it just me, or does this photo have an almost 3-D quality to it? I think it's the way the lighting tapers down as it goes off into the distance that does it for me.

I think the older woman sitting on the bench just said to her husband, "Honey, do you see that man over there? He's taking pictures!"

I was born and raised in Orlando. And always loved going to this mall as a kid because of the fountain and pet shop near the center of the mall. My parents couldn't let me lose near the fountain because I would try to run and grab some of the rocks at the base where the water falls. Can you imagine a public place nowadays with a large pile of rocks ready to throw.

They eventually had to turn off the fountain. Mold was growing throughout the mall.
