The Mall Shopping Center

Horseheads, New York - circa 1970

What a super-funkedelic interior this mall had! As evidenced by both this photo, and the one in the previous entry below. I love the gaudy, tacky vibe of this place from what I've seen so far (I have more, too). Truly far out!

Of course, throughout the '80s and '90s, this mall underwent major expansions and renovations, and was eventually renamed, Arnot Mall. Needless to say, it looks nothing like this anymore. Unfortunately.

Is that a sculpture of some sort or a bird cage? Whatever it is it does indeed look very ususual and artistic!

Now that's funky! I like how the chains on the ceiling match the arc of the fountain. Great picture!

They sure had thing for chains dangling from the ceiling.

Still, it looks damn cool.

I wonder if anyone has any of the photos of the big ugly sculpture that used to hang of the platforms in front of Izards?

The "slats" that are in the picture, are still in use today, as well as those weird little benches. you can find them in a few places in the mall still.
