Great shot of the worst parking spaces in the parking lot. :) Certainly not the best photo, I know, but it's the only one I have of Salisbury Mall at the moment (I'll keep looking). And hey, at least the mall's covered here now.

Wow. I never thought I'd see my "hometown" mall. It's been teetering on vacancy for many years now, since the "Centre at Salisbury" was built about 15 years ago. Back when I was a kid, this was a magical place. Pitching pennies in the fountain, Orange Julius, Bressler's 33 Ice Cream, The Connection, Hecht's, Hutzlers, and good old Sears.
A mall cannot survive without a gigantic parking lot!

My fiancee and I have very fond memories of that mall and we're so sad that it cannot be restored. We keep joking that if we win the lottery, we're going to buy it and restore it to it's early 1980's goodness. I just can't understand why they would let it get so run down.

I know what the other commenters mean. It's very sad to see how Salisbury has let this mall die. It's almost like witnessing the death of a dear friend. My significant other and I always joke about how if we won the lottery we would fix this up and live in it. This place holds so many memories for me. When I was a little boy in the late 70's/early 80's my parents would turn me loose once we hit Sears, and I would literally run for the mall entrance. Exploring every nook and cranny of that mall for several hours by yourself when your 8 years old was like magic to me. I still think Salisbury is big enough to support both malls. Speaking for myself, I despise going to the Centre at Salisbury anymore because North Salisbury is now so heavily developed it takes forever to get in and out from that side of town. I could get in and out of the old mall so easily. It would be nice if they could open it one last time to the general public before they tear it down so people can take one last look inside, but then again if it's as bad as WBOC TV recently reported, then it's probably best that I am left with my memories of how she "use" to be.
Salisbury Mall was a mall in Salisbury, Maryland located at Civic and Glen Avenue. It opened in the 1960's. It was anchored by Sears, Hecht's and Peebles at the height of it's success in the late 1980's. In the early 1990's after the opening of The Centre at Salisbury it had lost more than 60 percent of it's tenants including two of it's three main anchors. It was condemned by the city of Salisbury in 2006. It's future is uncertain. As of October 2006 some plans being submitted are calling for the mall to be demolished and the land redeveloped, possibly as a combined 600-700 unit residential/retail complex.
As I said, I am working on a documentary about this old mall. I would love to speak with you people because clearly you have solid memories.
