Park City Center Mall Kiosk

Lancaster, Pennsylvania - circa 1970s

Here's a fun postcard shot taken inside the ever-moody Park City Center Mall in the 1970s (back when it was still dark and moody). In this photo we see a small kiosk store in the middle of the mall proper, but I need a little help with this one's name.

It obviously sells nuts, but it's a store I'm not familiar with at all, and the back of the postcard is no help. It appears the name is "Ah! Nuts", but I'm not positive (maybe that's reversed?). Any fellow mallrats (particularly those familiar with either Park City Center back in the day or this shop itself) know for sure what this store was called?

Either way, it's a neat shot, where you can also see the very colorful Fifth Avenue Card Shop as well in the background.

  1. Uhh... I always just assumed it was called Ah! Nuts. Too bad they didn't take a picture of the fountain that used to be to the left of this shot.

  2. I'm not sure about the nut kiosk but the card shop is still there. Although now it's called Hallmark Fifth Avenue Card Shop or something along those lines.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That's funny that they used this kiosk as a postcard photo. Suppose the nut place went out of business after taking the photo, then the postcard would immediately became obsolete. Hmm.
I remember a number of nut dealers in the mall, most notable, Morrow's Nut House. I think Hickory Farms also sold nuts. Did we have a nut obsession in the Seventies?

  4. Well, at least the card shop retained the Fifth Avenue name. What about the cool script writing? Is that still there or did it become boring and plain once Hallmark too over?

    ReplyDelete
  5. No, sadly, the script signage was replaced(probably when Hallmark took over) and it's basically the Hallmark logo with "Fifth Avenue Card Shop" in small, boring Times font next to it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Anyone have pictures of Park City today? Come on, there must be someone...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sean, if that is the case than what was the point of retaining the Fifth Ave name?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Didi,

If it is a franchised Hallmark store, the owner can name it what they want, as long as it has Hallmark in the name.
We have a "Sue's Hallmark" and a "Deb's Hallmark" here.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 'dark and moody'. My type of old mall! Like the old Northridge Fashion Center and, if anybody knows about this place, The City in Orange County.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks, anonymous! I haven't seen too many franchised Hallmark's over the years. Most of the ones I have been to have no additional name.

  11. have been lurking up until now -- am 100% obsessed with this brilliant blog! Is Keith on vacation? Am suffering withdrawal -- a whole week w/o a new post! Related to Park City and the central PA theme, am desperate to see images/share memories with anyone who like me spent formative years at the Harrisburg East Mall. My early memories are of a dark, woody, Park City-esque interior scheme...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I know there used to be a place in the New Jersey malls called The Nutty Bavarian. It was all kinds of nuts with like cinnamon or glaze stuff sprinkled on them.

    ReplyDelete
  13. the name is "ah! nuts". look at the writing. on one side it's black, and on the other it's red. to clue you in that it's "ah! nuts" and not "nuts ah!" which makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you really want, I live in Lancaster and will take some pics of the mall today. Its nothing THAT interesting. The center of the mall has a roof covered in canvas that makes it look like a tent, they colored blue at night using lights. Other than that its basically just your average mall. Much like King of Prussia (minus the class).

  15. Does anyone know what has happened to Keith? Soon it'll be a month and nothing new. I'm more concerned about our cyber-friend, than the blog itself.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I also am concerned, and I don't even know the guy

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, I checked Dex online and found only one Milford in MI, and its not him. Any computer search gurus out there who can find him?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Has anyone who knows him tried e-mailing him through this blog? (mallsofamerica at gmail dot com) I'm worried, too!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I was wondering the same thing. I am not worried about updates as much as I am about what has happened to him. It seems unusual that he didn't erase the spam like he always does and I also emailed him back about two weeks ago through the email address of the blog and got no response. Now that more people are being concerned I am more worried.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I tried emailing about two weeks ago and no response yet. :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, we have tried emailing him (me too) to no avail. Does anyone have connections to the Detroit area for anyone who might know him? I wonder if we search this blog, if there might be clues to any way to contact him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It doesn't look like he is too active on that message board. Last post of his was in April.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Could this be our Keith?

    profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=62726385

I feel a bit stalkerish, but I really do hope he's OK--just too busy doing exciting things to update this blog :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. The guy on the MySpace page isn't 'our' Keith. Keith Milford is a little older and hails from a different town than this guy.

Keith, if you're out there, please check in. People are a little concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  25. None of Keith's other internet endeavors seem to be as up to date as Mall of America. Even the bulletin board that is referred to by the previous post has been updated more by other people, and not at all by Keith.

But, thanks JeffG for posting that message. Maybe we'll hit on something.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If it helps, the last return receipt I received for e-mail I had sent to Keith was from 9/4 at 10:38 p.m. Maybe someone else has at least gotten an e-mail confirmation since then?

I checked what I believe is his brother's blog thinking that a post there might lead to something, but it hasn't been updated since May 2006. I have to believe that if something is wrong, his family is aware and responding...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe his computer went down or something? This kind of thing drives me nuts. One click of the computer and that's it. I hope he's okay.
    Scott

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's been so long without an update.

    Hope Keith is doing alright.

It's worriesome, but not uncommon for blogs / websites to go without updates for long periods of time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yea, but when it's Keith, who almost always updates this particular blog you can't help but worry since on this site he has never disappeared for a month without an update. That is what worries me. I do hope he is all right. I don't care if we never see another postcard on here again, I just want to know that the genius behind this site is well and nothing is amiss. The fact that we have all come together to discuss this shows how much we all care for the blogger not just the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I always read this blog but have never posted - until now. But I'm concerned also, and I don't know the guy either! He just seems like a really nice person. I hope there's some benign explanation for Keith's absence.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm concerned, too. I love Malls of America and Keith's funny, insightful comments. I hope he's okay.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wonder if any of the bloggers on his blogroll might know him personally or have a different way to contact him that we don't have?

    Just an idea...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Maybe he's dead

    ReplyDelete
  34. The world is littered with informative sites and blogs that start out with a dedicated person who updates frequently and regularly.

....until that person gets a job, a girlfiend, a full class schedule, you name it. You then end up reading "I have a life now, leave me alone!"

It would be nice if Keith can let us know he's okay, but I'm guessing that he flat out doesn't have time for this any more.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe he is dead!!!
Let's poke at his body with a stick!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, quit poking me!

IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!!!!! It being me, Keith! Remember me? Heh. OK, two things real quick:

    1. No, I didn't die you guys! :D I'm fine. That wasn't the cause of my absence last month.

    2. The retro mall grooviness is about to get back in full swing here this week! Not today, but there WILL be new posts again this week. Just give me a minute to get back in the swing of things.

    OK, three things:

    3. Wow. I'm overwhelmed by your messages here, sincerely apologize for making anyone worry, and THANK YOU ALL for your concern, stalking (lol), and patience!

Seeing as you're still here with me (as I peek my head in to check), I guess I have some blogging to catch up on...

    Alright four things:

    4. You guys all rock!! I really missed the blog and YOU last month! :)

More on this soon. Just had to jump in real quick and say hi and let you know everything's OK and back to normal on my end now, so the blogging will resume shortly...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Keith,

We're really happy to see you back!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank goodness you're back, Keith! We've obviously missed you.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thank God! My wife was tired of hearing me say "I wonder what happened to the mall guy?" I am genuinely relieved to read your post

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yea, I second all those emotions..... I'm glad you're fine and I NEED MY MALL FIX

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks for responding, I was getting annoyed since I couldnt find a good stick anywhere;D

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh my god. AWESOME!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Glad to hear you're okay, Keith.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Welcome back Keith!

    BTW: It's ah! nuts. lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. Glad you're back, Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sweeeet! I was getting pretty anxious without any new retro mall posts! And, of course, glad to hear everything is fine. :) Welcome back Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Glad to hear you're okay, Keith :-)

    ReplyDelete
  48. So glad to see you back bro....you had us all worried and searching for poking sticks.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just when you thought all hope was lost...

Welcome back from the "dead" -- now get back to work posting cool retro mall stuff! ; )

    ReplyDelete
  50. Keith! That is great news. We knew you went dead. I thought you might have found a secret door in one of the malls that brought you back to the 70's when malls were cool.
    Kev

    ReplyDelete
  51. Keith, Welcome Back! It's a relief that you're alright.

Looking forwards to more retro-mall goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  52. WELCOME BACK KEITH!!!!! You have to know by now how devoted your blog readership is...like everyone else who's posted here, I was very worried about you -- AND suffering massive mall withdrawal like you can't even imagine. You are a mad mall genius and I SO get your sensibility. It's wonderful to know you're back!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's a relief that Kieth is alright, but a shame that the blog seems to be dead.

I enjoyed it while it lasted, but it's been over a month since the last update. So this is my last visit.....removing "Malls of America" from my "favorites" list and surfing to more fertile ground.

    Cio

    ReplyDelete
  54. A note to "cio" (Chief Information Officer?)- please give Keith a chance. I think someone who has provided over two straight years of great, insightful, Free content should be given the benefit of the doubt - in this case a 6-week furlough. Keith seems to be the type of blogger who is very aware of his audience and wants to please. Sometimes life gets in the way, of course. Also, the great photos he has collected to show us have come at no small expense, I'm sure. The best mall or shopping center postcards on eBay easily sell for 5 to 10 bucks a pop. As far as finding "more fertile ground", I wish you luck, but frankly doubt you'll find it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hello Keith,

This is my first time I ever posted on your blog, which is a “shame on me” moment as I am a faithful reader. I share your love for the golden age of the shopping mall. I have been involved in the retail world for 37 years starting as a shoe clerk at one of those forgotten chains that sometimes adorn your vintage photos.

Today I am the director of store planning and design for a major department store chain. I have won many awards throughout my tenure and many of my ideas have come from the malls of our past. I visit your site daily to recount the days of retail gone by. I wanted to finally thank you for your dedication to this site and for giving me years of enjoyment.

You will always have a bookmark in my browser and if you need a break to regroup you can count that I will always check back in to see if new memories are posted. If not, again thank you for the memory!

    Best of Luck

  56. "It's a relief that Kieth is alright, but a shame that the blog seems to be dead."

Dead? There seems to be a lot of folks who were concerned about Keith these last few weeks, so I wouldn't call it dead just because there haven't been new posts. As I stated before I didn't care so much if we ever got another post card again, I just wanted to know that Keith was okay and now that we do know that, I am respecting his wish to give him some time. He could be going through many things right now that we have no clue about so the best we can do is respect that. I have a friend I work out with who has not made time to work out with me lately until she finally told me why: she had some very serious health issues she was worried about and didn't want others to know just yet because she didn't want them worrying over something that could be serious or not. The best thing you can do in situations like that is be patient and respect their wishes and as soon as everything is fine again they will be back in the normal swing of things.

"I enjoyed it while it lasted, but it's been over a month since the last update. So this is my last visit.....removing "Malls of America" from my "favorites" list and surfing to more fertile ground."

Keith said he would post again just not yet and to give him some time. So after a month you are impatient enough to give up? I don't care If he doesn't add another postcard for five years I will still visit the place just because it is a great blog, new update or not. Give him time. No one could possibly know what he is going through and why he chose to take a breather. Respect that.

I also agree with the person who said that Keith has spent tons of money on the site. Mall postcards are not cheap. I maintain a blog and buy postcards for it and some of the prices for some cards they charge are outrageous. And they aren't even malls!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well said DiDi. I have been visiting this site for a year or so everyday. Give the guy a break cio, maybe he had open heart surgery, or some other big thing in his life like us all. If we think we are mallaholics, Kieth is the king mallaholic. He will be back. If you delete the bookmark, I don't think anyone will care. I find solace in looking at the archives, and I checked out "motel hell" which is also cool. I would like to have a couple of beers and smoke a joint with Keith, there would be alot to talk about. Take your time Keith.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Um, there are no other greener pastures. This is it.
For god's sake, give the guy a break. What other blog can carry on at 68 comments (and growing) when there hasn't been an update in over a month!
Keith, your loyal following is by your side.

  59. Keith my friend, You are truly missed, but i'm praying that whatever situationyour in clears up for the best. It's no ones business what your situation may be, but if illnesss in personal or family life, or financial crisis, whatever, im praying it goes well for you.

This blog seems to be a pet project of yours that you tend to so carefully and with alot of class and polish. Its well written and documented and well loved my many.

We miss you my friend, heres to hoping all is well.

I do have a suggestion. You should do a section on the holiday parades that some of the department stores used to have. Granted its not a mall thing, but department stores are in malls.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Awesome blog..hope to see some more updates soon! Get to some more New England and Ohio malls and some Northland Mall postcards from Columbus, OH.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't care how long it takes Keith to update- his page is bookmarked on my computer and it is worth waiting for. Awesome blasts from the past and clever writing too!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Keith,
    What to say.
Thanks for memories from 30 years ago.
    Enjoy your next project.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well, I still faithfully check this site daily. I hope I am not alone.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You're not, Peter. Definately not.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wonder, what is the average age of the devoted on this site? I am 37

    ReplyDelete
  66. 26. Will be 27 in one month.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm 31. There is just something so oddly wonderful and comforting about this blog. I always thought that I was weird because I am so into 'old' things. It nice to be amongst kindered spirits.

To Keith: If this is just a temporary hiatus, or if this is the end...thanks for everything. I will continue to check for updates, but if for some reason they do not come, just know that your time and effort with this blog have been and is appreciated. Hope everything in life is ok. If not, here is hoping that everyday things are looking a little bit better.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ah Nuts! ..it's the nuts photo again!! Still, I'll keep checking back here every day... ..hoping this doesn't turn into a Dead Malls blog!! Ketih, glad you are still alive. Don't worry about posting anything soon. I doubt much will be changing with these past malls.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am 42, and faithfully check this blog daily. Obviously I grew up visiting the malls of the 1970's and 1980's. and have great memories of time spent with family or teenage friends. As I lament the demise of these icons for "lifestyle" centers, I have to laugh because my mother (now 80 years old) would complain about the demise of the great downtown shopping districts for the indoor shopping mall! This distain for malls still did not stop her from shopping there! Keith, thanks again for the memories of many malls I have encountered, especially in metro Detroit.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well, her i am back again, keeping the blog alive.

    ReplyDelete
  71. 31 here, too. I love nostalgia and vintage sites, both Keith's Mall site and his Motel site have been favorites. On a couple of occasions, pics or postcards were put up of places from my childhood in the 70s and 80s, particularly Nebraska and New Hampshire, that pulled up memories that would have been loooong lost. It's a powerful visceral experience, full on time machine... being 6 years old and dragged through the Burlington Mall, 4 years old galloping past the Piggly Wiggly, etc. And you don't get any better design inspiration than from 50s-70s motels and malls. I'll keep clicking. (Anyone also a Swapatorium reader? A similar fate at that site.)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi :) Lurker here...I haven't been on in a while but I've read through all of the comments and I'm very glad to hear that Keith is okay! I love all of the wonderful nostalgia on this site and I'd like to put in my bid for youngest faithful Malls Of America follower...I'm 16. Sooo glad to hear that everything's alright with Keith and I hope to see some wonderful new updates on malls of yesteryear soon!

    ReplyDelete
  73. There have been two old pics on this site from the two malls I remember as a child. Seeing them brought back powerful memories, and the other malls, even though I have never been to them, also evoke the old memories. This blog is one of a kind. I can hear the dream machine and see spencer gifts, and smell the hot dogs at McCrorys on this site. Funny, I hate going to the mall now.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Still dead.....Cio

    ReplyDelete
  75. How is it dead if we are all still checking in, maybe Keith ran out of rescources for photos, maybe something in life is so heavy right now that he cannot give any time to this blog--maybe busy at work--who knows? I do not think that any guy who would go through the trouble to construct this site would just leave it. I am so lazy with this thing that I don't even have my name in blue like you hard core folks. Cio, you are a buzz kill, so much so that I perscribe a heavy dose of "lost sailor>saint of circumstance" or maybe even a "Scarlett>Fire," or just looking at a picture of Jerry Garcia will help you

    ReplyDelete
  76. um, still dead peterb....

    cio

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nope, just Cio who's dead.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My vote is that it's not dead, just in hibernation.

    ReplyDelete
  79. my daily vigil continues...and also I need to say R.I.P Uncle Phil Salduti. an uncle of mine died of brain cancer today...at least he isnt suffering any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's on life support.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Peterb and other devotees, don't let Cio get to you. Bad digital kharma. BTW, I'm 40 and am flat-out OBSESSED with 70s malls. None of the other retro mall blogs can touch Keith's -- though there are some terrific ones (labelscar is how I get my fix these days), none come close to the personality and distinctive voice of Keith's. I had been holding out hope that Keith's focus would migrate from Lancaster PA and the Park City Center Mall to Harrisburg PA to a great (though dying) example of late 60s/early 70s regional mall goodness, the Harrisburg East Mall. (sigh). I fear my dream will not come true.

    ReplyDelete
  82. so....I love this site anyways, but...if you guys are into like really wacked out 70s and 80's tributes and unusual pop culture stuff, like soundtracks to tv shows and things...http://wonderfulwonderblog.blogspot.com is an awesome portal to all the above mentioned things. And also Plaidstallions and megomuseum.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Me thinks Cio was and is nothing but a troll. Only trolls take Keith off their favorites list and declare that MoA is dead so quickly after all Keith said was he needed some time to breathe. Clearly Mr Anonymous Cio has nothing to offer and knows nothing about respect.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Ah Nuts! is exactly what I say when I see that this darn picture is still on here! Miss ya Keith!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well, I am going to June 2006, and I am going to revisit the photos there starting with the first one. I hope to see some others.

  88. well i dont care...keith said he'd be back, we gotta beleive.

    ReplyDelete
  89. SCOOBY DOO?! WHERE ARE YOU?!!?!

    ReplyDelete
  90. so....his one blog is apparently alive...the detroit tv one

like people there post, but i dunno if keith has been there

i mean who knows if he has like cancer or a blood clot or something that keeps him unable to be at a pc.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Of course we all hope Keith is well. He puts some effort into his blogs, and if he's gotten a little bored with this one that's o.k.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Or maybe he actually has some very personal problems and he can't be around 24/7 to appease people who apparently aren't patient enough to give him space.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Even if Keith had tired of this blog, he's a cool guy and probably would have written a farewell message, as he did with his Halloween blog. Furthermore, he knows we're all waiting for him -- if there's not going to be any more updates, I think he would simply give us the respect of saying there'd be no more updates, rather than leave us hanging.

So something personal has been keeping him away lately, and it's none of our business. We just have to remain patient. (Keith himself said that he wanted to continue posting.)

We love your blog, Keith. There's not another mall site on the net presented with such affection for the material, or written with such personality. If and when you return, your fans await!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Happy Halloween all!!!!

Trick or Treat keithster where ever you are

    ReplyDelete
  95. well, going back to the older posts was good but not great. Thanks Didi for going with me. Hopefully Keith will return soon because these other sites are just not doing it for me(although Bigmallrats site is cool)I need my dose of serene 70's imagery

    ReplyDelete
  96. yep...gona go to archives too for now

    ReplyDelete
  97. so...hopefully keith can pull off a christmas miracle

    ReplyDelete
  98. What a great blog! I know I'm very late in joining in on the fun, but I have always had this strange affinity for the 60s and 70s even though I was born in 1980 (so I missed that era entirely). It's good to know I'm not alone in my fascination.nI pretty much spent the day going through the archives and would love to see more...I'm sure it'll be worth the wait once it gets updated!

    ReplyDelete
  99. PLEASE COME BACK!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I was born in 1980 and I can take my affinity for vintage even farther. I am virtually a sucker for anything in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s and sometimes the 60s. My fascination really started with the Roaring Twenties. I was a pre-teen when I started really wanting to transport myself back in time to that era. I gradually started to apreciate the other eras as well and thanks in part to Keith's site really started appreciating the 70s and 80s more too. My cousin was born in '81 and he has always had this weird fascination with the 70s too ever since we were kids. What is it about children of the 80s wanting to go back to eras they never experienced?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Just checking in. For a long time I intermittently searched the internet for photos just like the ones Keith has generously posted here. The first MOA image I ran across was the one of Ford City: http://photos1.blogger.com/img/170/6216/1024/FORD%20CITY%20SHOPPING%20CENTER%20-%20Chicago,%20Ill.jpg. I was astonished at the amount of material that had been posted even then, and I was very grateful to have discovered such a rich collection. And that clever writing--the description of the image as "butterscotchy" had me hooked immediately.

Active or not, there's more here than I ever imagined I'd be able to find. Many thanks, Keith.

    ReplyDelete
  102. You think keith has multiple personalities....and cio is one of them? Just a thought

    ReplyDelete
  103. No. Keith would never post stuff like that. When he returns, it will disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Woaaaaah!

Folks, folks, let's not feed the trolls.

Keith wouldn't ever let stuff like that through....it's unlike him.

Keith...SAVE US!! We miss you! Wherever you are or whatever you're doing, hope life is treating you well and you'll return to giving us vintage mall goodness someday real soon.

    ReplyDelete
  105. i cant wait to hear an update

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ah nuts! Still the same!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Well it’s been almost 3 months without an update. It’s been almost 2 months since Keith last posted and said he would update within a week.

All I can say is that I hope this blog does not fade into memory the same as the malls it pays tribute to.

Keith, hope all is well and that you can resume this site at some point in the future. If not, it was great while it lasted and was a real source of enjoyment.

As a side note to all the people who had to start a little mudslinging war on this site I can only say this:

    Grow up.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Sadly, some people never learn the art of growing up.

  109. I think we have to face the fact that for the forseeable future this site is done. My guess is that Keith's time is being now taken up by a job, a significant other, or any other combination of things that constitutes "a life".

This happens all the time. You get a gung-ho blogger who starts a site with a wealth of information, and updates it regularly, if not daily. And then suddenly one day it's "Leave Me Alone, I'll add more when I damn well feel like it"

I think Keith is probably too diplomatic to take that approach, but the fact that he no longer can take the time to at least clean up some of the postings over the last couple of weeks tells me that this site is no longer a priority to him. I mean, does he get paid for this? Can you blame him?

I don't know how long the site will even be up, but I would suggest that people copy their favorite pics and articles and be thankful for the brief time we had this.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I feel abandoned--KIETH COME BACK!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Or at least if he wqon't update erase the troll postings.

    ReplyDelete
  112. OK Keith here goes. You are going to make a nice vintage mall posting, we will pretend nothing happened around here just like a good dysfunctial family does. You are going to make us laugh and in turn we will lob praise upon you. If not thanks for all of the past work.

    ReplyDelete
  113. For those who like good vintage pics or discount stores and grocery stores you may want to try this blog: No malls but some are still just as good.
    http://pleasantfamilyshopping.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  114. Either way, I am willing to give Keith space because none of us really know what is going on and it wouldn't be fair to at least respect Keith's wishes and if he doesn't come back ever, well, then we could always move on to the next blog of interest even though I know that this one is a real keeper.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I really hope Keith at least has a "good bye" post instead of broken promises. Same thing with Motel Hell and the others...

    ReplyDelete
  116. Keith -

hope everything is OK with you. and thanks for all your tireless work on this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well Keith, if this is the end, and I shudder to think this may be it, I Thank You from the bottom of my heart. Good luck in the future bro, I hope the archives will stay up for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  118. It's not dead; it's just...hibernating.

    ReplyDelete
  119. eh i m gonna stick around...ya never know

    ReplyDelete
  120. Hibernating is a good word for it.

    ReplyDelete
  121. yep... gonna make this my mission...stay til the bitter end

  122. There is ample evidence that Keith Milford is alive and well. He created an Amazon wish list and another blog about a Detroit radio personality long after his final post here. He could easily put a stop to all this speculation and idiotic sparring with a brief post, but does not. I suspect he's watching this fascinating and bizarre narrative unfold here in the comments section with some curious delight and wondering just how long all these weirdos will keep it up. These message-board-type Internet feuds are a new classic. The over-the-top devotion of a few of you holding endless vigil is sweet, but borderline freaky. The Internet is infinite, folks. This is not your living room. I do not think this blog about vintage malls necessitates all this protective mothering for someone who clearly just has other interests to guard right now. Happy holidays everyone. Life goes on. Go spend time with your families.

  123. We don't care about buying or selling crap, we celebrate the indoor mall. Back when each had distinct personality, unique stores, beautiful fountains. Now they're all being plowed down for big box centers, outdoor centers, or anything like that. So if you think we're here to improve your life as an online clerk in selling Made in China stuff delivered via UPS, then scram. But if you're simply a misunderstood soul who came across this site, then do explore this site, Labelscar (and the things it links to), and DeadMalls.com. We'd love to have to you.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Can I have an AMEN!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hey you guys! All the old troll posts (well, most of them) have been deleted. Is this a sign that Keith will return?!! Let's hope!

    ReplyDelete
  126. do we dare to hope?

    ReplyDelete
  127. w00t! Hi keith!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  128. It was primarily a flame war way more than trolling. Spam was also deleted, so my last comment doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There were about 40 comments deleted more or less.

    ReplyDelete
  129. How Lame!!!
Keith just shows up to delete unflattering comments and *poof* - he's gone again.

Keith, you've wasted a lot of good will here by you slacker behaviour.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Rubbish.

First of all, he (I assume) deleted all those HIGHLY OFFENSIVE expletive-laden troll comments and the flame war thing--which we WANTED removed. And THANK GOD it's gone!!! I think that's great.

Second of all, chill. Come on, he's been doing this site in his own spare time, FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT, for years now (and it appears to be a lot of work/time/expense to do). So he's taking a few month's break. Big deal. happens all the time on blogs (frankly, I'm surprised he didn't get burned out and take a hiatus a long time ago like most other serious bloggers do...and they all do). Everyone's entitled to a break once in a while! My guess is new content will resume after the holidays.

"Slacker behaviour"? Well that's just plain unfair AND unwarranted. Let's get some perspective here, please.

    ReplyDelete
  131. =[

i left a nice comment about christmas miracles, and it was deleted. that makes me sad.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Hello...even though i am not a regular here( I do like to drop by as often as i can and it is a pretty cool Blog) to tell you the truth, I was wondering how Keith could come up with so much things to post( admit it he posted pretty frequently...and i imagine you have to scour the internet to get such a bevy of treasure troves of the past) So anybody who is hassling this guy should just leave him alone and DO enjoy what has been posted... with that said you should check this site out http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadsidepictures/2128412784/
it is not the same as what Keith is doing but its just a cool IMO ( in fact you might find some of the same pics here as well) Last but not least, I would like to wish everyone a great day, Peace & Love!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I can't believe I'm posting here again (my 3rd, I was also "sheesh"). This page is a black hole. I got sucked back into the vortex.
Anyway, just want to point something out. Here's two examples of similar sites that I also click regularly that posted up no-big-whoop apologies to their loyal fans for absences, one for just missing a couple days, and one just before a long hiatus:

    http://tikiranch.blogspot.com/2007/12/new-stuff-tomorrow.html
    http://swapatorium.blogspot.com/2007/10/closed.html

Now, would that be so hard?!? Just saying.
In support of the 'wasting good will' concept, he clearly could have handled this better. A good blog ambassador would have posted SOMETHING. Frankly, I thought he had just run out of material (totally understandable, how many postcards of old malls can one person have?), but couldn't we get a little 'hey-hey' out of him? We know he's alive and well, and clicking about on the internet with other things. The total absence here is almost antagonistic, at the very least it's bad blog etiquette.
I don't know why we get so worked up. Modern living is very confusing. But Keith: mind your store, dude. The town is trashing it.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I sent Keith an email a couple weeks ago asking him to please just let the readers know what's up. I never got a reply, but it's obvious he was here, or the cyber-bullying comments would not have been deleted. And those were deleted AFTER I sent the email, so who knows what's going on. Maybe he's just moved on to other things. It sucks that we haven't heard from him, but oh well...at least we have a blog full of great pix and postcards that we can enjoy for as long as this blog exists. I think it's great he gave us that. Let's just enjoy what we have and maybe one day Keith will come back and say SOMETHING. But if he doesn't, well, I thank him for giving us the gift that is this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Well...it's almost Christmas. Keith might drop something...

    ReplyDelete
  136. I was hoping for some christmas mall pics

    ReplyDelete
  137. This is like watching my plant die.

    ReplyDelete
  138. It's Christmas and...no dice. It's time to remove MOA from the bookmarks list....

    ReplyDelete
  139. Like Keith said in his first post, he's just "Lost in Shopper's Paradise"...

    ReplyDelete
  140. you know what??? I don't care i'm gonna post til something happens...im disabled and unemployed so other than take pain meds and play my wii i go on the internet...so i have got nothing better to do for the next couple months....i'm gonna try and find some photos of the defunct malls in my area in their hey day and comment on them maybe on a flickr page...would any of you guys visit it if i did?

    ReplyDelete
  141. happy new year kieth!

    ReplyDelete
  142. The spam disappeared again.

    ReplyDelete
  143. i'm stubborn and staying until either:
    a. keith comes back
    b. the site shuts down (which i hope won't happen)
    c. the internet implodes

    ReplyDelete
  144. It aint over till the fat lady sings! Fallbrook Square - Canoga Park California 1964 - Home of the largest Sears store when built. The outdoor mall included; "The House of Sight & Sound" "Wollworths" "JC Penny" "The Fox Theater" and a parking lot that made Disneyland's look small! There, some new mall info!

    ReplyDelete
  145. lol thanks for that

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks for the memories.

    ReplyDelete
  147. You know, this hasn't been updated in forever, yet I still find myself coming back, hoping that Keith made an update of some sort. I just hope one day he'll come back, even if it's just to say goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I've moved on to Labelscar :-(
And it has become hit and miss

    ReplyDelete
  149. Man, same here. :(

What I really want is my MOA back!! THIS blog. Sigh...

I had a dream last night that I checked it and it was suddenly updating again. Thing is, when I dream about something it usually happens.

    ReplyDelete
  150. So then the question is why do we prefer MOA to Labelscar? It's because Keith always showed the malls that "we used to go to". Labelscar doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  151. And he (Keith) will again shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  152. hello anyone, still keeping vigil here

    ReplyDelete
  153. But of course Peter. Holidays weren't really all that long ago. Unless I see an official message stating otherwise (which I do think would happen), I'm still expecting a resumption here soon. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  154. maybe a post will come soon, I still have hope

    ReplyDelete
  155. The long wait goes on
When will we see more mall posts?
    A haiku by me

    ReplyDelete
  156. If MOA is dead, then I enjoyed it while it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Unless there's some technical difficulty, then Keith has no excuse not to at least let everyone know what's going on. If indeed he's been updating stuff or whatever...Come on Keithy, don't let us down!

    ReplyDelete
  158. when my friend just disappeared for no reason, i guessed that she was thrown in the nuthouse.

    and i was right.

    hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  159. Well, he HAS been deleting spam and offensive comments this whole time...maybe he just doesn't WANT to do this anymore. I think we all wish he'd come and say goodbye or whatever, but seeing as he has given up his other blogs at one time or another without saying goodbye, it doesn't seem likely.

Oh well. It was great when it lasted! I hope one day he will post one more time, and I will keep checking back, but as time goes on I lose hope. Just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  160. Some of those links are far out

    ReplyDelete
  161. Come on, Milford. Finish what you've started. If you're through, let us know.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Maybe the death of the blog is a metaphorical comment on the death of the American mall.

    Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  163. im looking for some pics of a mall called Seaview square mall that was in Ocean township NJ

    ReplyDelete
  164. the lack of update is driving me mad arghhhhhh!!!!!!

  166. My theory involves some sort of lascivious jail sentence. Maybe a little white collar crime, or a similarly debilitating event, like a lengthy hospital stay of private nature. It's sensational enough to fit the mood here, and makes total sense. Say, he's asked a buddy (you know, on the outside) to keep his blog nice and tidy, clean up the spam, et al, but has requested that his friends and fam don't comment on his misfortune. Despite the criminal implications and all, at least this restores Milford's fine blogging intentions. I'm not sure how his active and current Amazon wish list supports this theory, but whatever. I'm being generous.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I nominate Keith Milford as the "Blog Sphere Slacker of the Year"!

But seriously, Keith is probably picking up a lot of overtime at Burger King and has been too tired to post.

KEITH!!! Get off your lazy arse and post something. Give this rag some closure.

    ReplyDelete
  168. The mall is closed. Go home.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Looks like Mr. Snarky has been back - trimming the negative comments.

    What's the point Keith???

    ReplyDelete
  170. who knows...but we sit and wait...

    ReplyDelete
  171. I had a dream last night in which Keith met me and explained about his absence. He didn't show his face or anything and asked about some of the negative comments on his blog.

Unfortunately, he didn't explain where he was or what he was doing. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Ironic; I keep coming back and everytime I wind up saying Ah! Nuts! Here's to wishing Keith the best and hoping that he'll eventually return.

    ReplyDelete
  173. He's not comeing back. He abandoned this forum like he did his Detroit TV & Movie Forrum three years ago. It's over, people.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I really miss checking this blog and finding something new. So, I was thinking.... I have enough time and would like to see this continue. I'm seeing what I can get from University archives in my area. Would anyone like to send me interesting retro mall pics they have and see if we can't get this to continue in a similar fashion? Jburton01@yahoo.com

    Thanks,

    JOHN

    ReplyDelete
  175. JOHN...I CAN CHECK LIBRARY ARCHIVES IN MY AREA IN NJ....it would be fun to do something like this!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  176. I think Keith is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Ah, nuts! 200th post!

    ReplyDelete
  178. i dont care if this goes on a year, im still waiting....

    ReplyDelete
  179. When I blow out my candles today, I know what I'm wishing for...

I can't say it, because then it won't come true, but it starts with a u and ends with an pdate.
