Honolulu, Hawaii - December 12, 1971
What better way to celebrate the Holiday season in 1971 Honolulu, than to head over to Kahala Mall for Stag Nite! Yes, this was really taking place at a mall (though it was protested by a local women's lib group). Hmm, sorry, but I have to admit, that ad would be mighty hard to resist. :)
This vintage ad is via Ian Lind's "Old Kine" Pictures page, where you can also check out several photos of the actual protest outside Kahala Mall that night, as well as read more about the event and what took place.
Oh yeeeeah!!!! Probably the best mall ad I've ever seen. :D
ReplyDeleteWow, this could be the only mall in America that used scantly-clad women to attract men. I'd bet, though, they saved their dollars for the g-strings.

Such a cool old piece of ephemera...wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteinterestingly enough, the model doesn't look shes starving herself to death(which is a good thing).
ReplyDeletethe protesting I sort of get it but then again I sorta don't :s
we're many of the men single? some of them married perhaps wives worrying about being cheated on?
I'm guessing this event was something like a "mens night out" sorta thing, but whats it exploiting? beauty? from the look at the ad it doesn't seem women models were horrifically skinny.
free beer in a mall? thats a first!
