I happened across these cool photos at OmniPlan.com (the architectural firm that handled NorthPark Center's most recent expansion project, as well as the mall's original construction). Here are a few of their design notes from the site:
"The original design concept for NorthPark set a consistent standard of quality in materials, architectural detailing and use of natural light. NorthPark was the first shopping center to be constructed using one major building material and to initiate a policy of controlled signage.Mall History: 1965 - present
The interior is spacious and grand from one court to the next, softened year round by the careful selection and maintenance of blooming interior plantings. Extensive landscaping, indoor art and outdoor sculpture make this facility unique among shopping centers."

This is a beautiful mall, but the photos don't give it justice. It looks cold and sterile. No pizzazz or interest. Just very "controlled." However, the mall is full of architectural features that make it stunning, when looked on the whole. The lack of small details on a grander scale is very appropriate and complimentary.

There is but one NorthPark. These aren't the best shots, but they're hinting at the greatness within.
