'87 Miss Pittsburgh Pageant at Monroeville Mall
WPXI-TV Channel 11 News (1987)
A beauty pageant... inside the shopping mall where the gory zombie horror film epic, Dawn of the Dead (1978), was filmed. Pretty cool. And I can't help wondering if all these lovely, elegant gals were aware that only a mere 9 years earlier, right where they're standing, hundreds of drooling zombies filled this mall? :)
The first video clip above, is highlight footage from the 1987 Miss Pittsburgh Pageant, that was indeed held inside Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania, and the second is a news report of same, that aired later that night on WPXI-TV Channel 11 News, in Pittsburgh. Happened across both of these on YouTube and couldn't resist.
So how can you tell Halloween's starting to creep into my thoughts?

If I could spend an eon as a disembodied spirit in this mall circa 1978, I could die happy.
ReplyDeleteThat 80s hair!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, more Monroeville posts please! :)
ReplyDeleteHere's another post regarding a competition at Monroeville Mall; this is the mall that was shown on a 1981 episode of "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" where Chef Brockett expresses his disappointment from not earning a ribbon for a cake decorating contest that was held at Monroeville Mall. Although I live in California, I recognized this mall from the above episode as I explored the websites about the "Mall of the Dead" horror flick. The episode as part of the week's subject, "Mr. Rogers Talks About COMPETITION" will air tomorrow on my local PBS station, and has a guest appearance by Big Bird in the Neighborhood of Make- Believe (NOMB) segment where he enters a contest of the drawing of the NOMB.
ReplyDeleteRIP Mr. Rogers and Chef Brockett:(
