Bradenton, Florida - photos March, 1974 This guy's here to chew bubblegum and wear denim--and he's all out of bubblegum!
Yeah, in the 1970s,
real men wore flannel shirts and denim jeans--and this County Seat clothing store worker in DeSoto Square Mall is certainly up to his armpits in it, as he tends the Levi's stock. Apparently he's not only the manager, he's also a client.

I remember stores like that! My uncle use to buy his Levis cord bell bottoms and elephant flares in a store like that!
ReplyDeleteI miss County Seat. They were a great place to buy clothes. I still have and occasionally wear a dress I bought there ten years ago.
ReplyDeleteCounty Seat was one of the larger 'jeans' chains, but I also recall Just Pants and Chess King as national names.
ReplyDeleteThese were very popular in the mid/late 1970s / early 1980s. County Seat ceased operations in 1999 after struggling to stay afloat for a few years prior to closing.
George Lucas would feel at home.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some sort of denim leisure suit in the second picture.
ReplyDeleteAll you had to say was "County Seat". I agree with Didi, I remember buying clothes there. Awesome photos. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
ReplyDeleteI miss that Levi's logo. :(
ReplyDeleteThis is so weird, I live in Bradenton and that is our mall! I remember in the mid to late 80's going to that very county seat! of course it looked different, and probably closed about 10 years ago. That mall sucks now though, all these ucky cheap stores.

OLD STORE MANAGER OF AUNTIE ANNE'S DESOTO SQ MALL
I was wondering what happened when the store disappeared in the local mall and was replaced by American Eagle about ten years ago. I liked the clothes from there when I was a kid. By kid, I mean a teenager. In fact, I'm wearing a shirt from County Seat right now ca. 1995. Can't go wrong with a plain black T that refuses to wear out! That's why I looked it up...wondering what the heck happened. Ah well, things come and go as they say.
