Super stylish looking Merle Norman cosmetics & gifts store, inside Lloyd Center mall. Nice storefront design. And just look at all the wonderful little gifts it's chock full of! Bet there's some mighty cool stuff in there.

ReplyDeleteToday's anchors are really messed up. There's a Ross and Marshalls in a mall with upscale Nordstrom and semi-upscale Sears, and M&F. Usually off-price stores are in strip malls around the hub (Lloyd Center in this case) rather than in it, unless it's an outlet mall. I bet the three semi-upscale-upscale anchors I listed aren't doing well with business with Ross and Marshalls in the mall.

ReplyDeleteMerle Norman is still in the mall. I dont think its in the location located in the picture, as according to the directory it is next to Sears and an entry way.
ReplyDeleteI think Anonymous would be surprised at how many malls have Ross and Marshalls taking anchor space alongside more upscale stores. These days, you take what you can get. Having those huge anchors filled with discounters is better than nothing at all. In the case of Lloyd Center, Marshalls used to be a Woolworth's, so you could easily say it's gone upscale!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed how Nordstrom and Meier & Frank can each maintain two stores (downtown and Lloyd Center) within only a few miles of each other. It's been said that Lloyd Center's proximity to downtown Portland has been a bit of a handicap to both.
Put a Target next to Neimans and I'm in heaven. This idea of segregating the classes is no more.

ReplyDeleteRemember that soon, Topanga Plaza will have a Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, Macys, Sears and Target.
Target at the mall? Well in a way target is like a giant woolworths, mccrorys and other discount stores combined, throw in a little funky design. Stores are mostly designed for women shoppers anyway with Target being no exception. Targets goal is to make shopping fun. Oh, god I'm on my soapbox again.
