Thank you for posting this picture! You really brought me back alot of years. I used to live north of Merle Hay Plaza-and remember clearly opening day. It was a BIG DEAL! The crowds were unbelieveable! There used to be a Safeway store in front-next to Sears. It didn't last long there.
did you know that this mall had a real bad fire in the 1970s and several people lost there life there. the younkers department store had a fad moving fire just before thanksgiving in 1978. several employeees lost there life when thay became traped on the stores second level.the store reopened the next year and was recenty relogacted to another location in the mall. the old store came down and is now the site of target .sears and kohls are also at this mall today
