Retro Japanese Shopping Center Ad

Shopping Space Mon (1980s)

Globetrotting time again! This is just a short little '80s Japanese shopping center TV commercial. Kind of weird, lol.

It has a very spartan look and sound to it, but I kind of dig the vibe. You might have to watch it a few times to get a feel for it, cuz it goes by fast. Wish it was longer, though, and that it showed the actual shopping center itself. But oh well.

Yeah...I'm feeling this. Almost seems like a thing you'd see in some futuristic sci-fi film.

Japanese ads are quite hard to get into the first time around, a majority produced in later years tend to be only 15 seconds long at most, with only a few that managed to get into the 30 second or minute-long category.

From the same YouTube user, here's a few more interesting ads...

Kita-Shoten in Osaka:

Nissan bluebird 1969 dynamic:

Nissan bluebird 1968 supersonic age:

Toyopet Crown 1963:

Subaru Leone 1971:

Daiichi kaden's TV shopping 1970s:

Hitachi's Lo-D hi-fi set 1979:

Daimaru TV shopping early 1980s:

Of course this guy's got a o lot of nifty vids to check out.

Incidentally, here an opening to a cartoon version of the 1980's Summer Olympics mascot, Misha!
