Columbus Square Mall

Columbus, Georgia - 1960's

I can just picture myself right now standing there. The smell of food coming from that Woolworth lunch counter to the right, and having downloaded that MIDI 'muzak' down a few posts, hear that very kind of thing piped through the ceiling speakers.

Ah yes, and what's that way down there at the end? I always thought those old "Penneys" (used from 1965-1971) signs looked much nicer than the current "JCPenney" (1971-present).

Thankfully I got to see it in person..abelt only at an old outdated mall in another nearby city (Sheboygan WI I believe, at their Memorial Mall), before that store closed down in 2001.

Ironically many folks call it "Penneys" anyways.

Too bad the mall is no more, as you have stated.

Great notes, Matt! Thanks. Glad the Midi Muzak did the trick. :)

I worked at in the toy department at Woolworths in Columbus Square Mall in 1976. I was a junior at Jordan Vocational High School. I ate lunch at the Orange Julius most every day. I spent the remainder of my lunch hour at the record store down the mall. I can’t remember the name of the record store unfortunately. It’s only been 50 years ago!
