Yahoo! likes old malls!

MALLS OF AMERICA was featured as Yahoo's 'Pick of the Day' today! Very cool. You can view the entry right here!

Many thanks to Yahoo! for the honor! And thanks to everyone visiting and, more importantly, interacting by making submissions and/or filling in more memories and details in the various posts here! You guys all make this a really fun place to hang out (in year-round, air-conditioned comfort, of course)! :)

Congratulations! That's quite the honor.

I've been meaning to write forever to tell you that your photo of the old Palm Beach Mall brought me back. The river running through it, the bridges, the palm trees, the ungodly 70s colors.

They "renovated" it in the 90s (I think) and completely destroyed it's funky vibe. No one goes there anymore. Now everyone flocks to the opulent, but soulless Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens. *sigh*

Thank you.

Love your site! I live in Chicago so, I'm familiar with Randhurst Mall and Ford City. But, I was wondering if you had any photos of River Oaks Mall in Calumet City? Because that is the mall of my childhood. It was an outdoor mall and I guess in the late 80's or early 90's they inclosed it. Thank you and congrats!

It's amazing this happened so quickly! This kind of thing never happens to me.

Side note, why can't I see the fonts for this particular post?

No, people still go to the Palm Beach Mall. The Gardens has gone downhill ever since that shooting in the food court in 1999.

I, too, would love to see photos of River Oaks Mall in Calumet City, Illinois back when it was still and outdoor mall with concrete benches. It held so many fond memories of my mom and I shopping, and walking through the snow from store to store with all the trees lit for the holidays. Would love to see pics of it to show my kids. Thanks!
